| Smug Pugs is a small show kennel with an average population of 6 or 7 showing & breeding Pugs at any given time. All of our Pugs live, eat and sleep with us, and we breed only to produce our next generation of show prospects - rarely more than 1 or 2 litters a year. |
Although still relatively new to Pugs, I've been showing other breeds since 1978. In 2003, I was lucky enough to begin my life with Pugs by acquiring a lovely fawn boy - our CH Chubby Cheekers - that was a winner from the first time he set paw in the show-ring. Despite a near career-ending injury at 16 mos, he went on to finish his title - all owner/handled in the NW - in impressive form, at an age when most Pugs are retired, while competing against dogs half his age. At the 2004 Nationals, I saw my first midwest-bred black Pug, and I was HOOKED! In 2005, I was lucky enough to find a wonderful friend and mentor in Sandra Morgan of WindWalker Pugs, who entrusted me with a lovely dominant-black, double-bred Twist granddaughter, WindWalker's SmugPugs Diva - our foundation bitch and dam of our first home-bred show girl, SmugPugs Cause For Applause. While I do show and breed some fawns, my first love is, and always will be, the BLACK, and my primary goal is to produce sound, healthy, well-adjusted black Pugs here in the NW, with the same exquisite type and quality as those midwest dogs I first fell in love with. My deepest gratitude to Sandra and to Diana Hedstrom of Fantasy Pugs for all their help and encouragement! |
